A practical, field-focused surveying course

This course is for civil and engineering diploma students, junior overseers and aspiring surveyors who want hands-on practical skill, not classroom theory. Where a standard total-station course stops at basic instrument operation, this training centres on the skill site engineers use every day: laying out a building correctly on the ground, and turning field coordinates into a usable AutoCAD drawing.

Outcomes

What you will be able to do

The objective is not theoretical knowledge. Participants are guided to understand how surveying concepts apply in real field situations, and how field information becomes a usable technical drawing.

  • Set up and operate a total station confidently on site.
  • Transfer a benchmark and establish reference and control points.
  • Lay out a building footprint accurately — corners, grid lines, offsets — and verify it with diagonal checks.
  • Lay out a road intersection and alignment on the ground.
  • Understand cadastral surveying basics — land parcel boundaries and cadastral maps.
  • Plot collected field coordinates into AutoCAD to produce a finished layout drawing.
  • Understand how field work translates directly into a construction-ready drawing.
